Summer Workshop 2019 (Jun 03 - Jun 07, 2019)

This summer workshop aims to provide opportunity for advanced Ph.D. students, postdocs and young researchers to interact in their research areas. This meeting will focus on 4-Manifolds, $G_2$ Manifolds, and symplectic manifolds. There will be some mini-courses and research talks, followed by informal discussions. Participants will be encouraged to give research talks related to the focused topics.

The mini courses will be given by Selman Akbulut, Roman Golovko and Üstün Yıldırım.

Organizing Committee: Fırat Arıkan, Çağrı Karakurt, Üstün Yıldırım, Eylem Zeliha Yıldız.

To register, please click here. Application deadline is April 30, 2019.

Supporting Organizations: TMD (Turkish Mathematical Society-MAD), GGT (Gökova Geometry Topology)

Talks

Speaker Title and Abstract
Selman Akbulut Mini Course (5 Lectures): 4-Manifolds
This will be very informal introduction to construction of 4-manifolds and their exotic structures. Discussion of handles, bundles, PALF's and discussion of various techniques from carving, roping, rolling and Gluck twisting, with the eye on some recent results.
Roman Golovko Mini Course (5 Lectures): On Legendrian submanifolds and exact Lagrangian cobordisms
In this mini-course we will discuss Legendrian submanifolds in the contactization of exact symplectic manifold and exact Lagrangian cobordisms between them. Lagrangian cobordism is a natural relation between Legendrian submanifolds, and it is a crucial ingredient in the definition of the functorial properties of invariants of Legendrian submanifolds in the spirit of symplectic field theory of Eliashberg, Givental and Hofer.
Üstün Yıldırım Mini Course (5 Lectures): $G_2$-Manifolds
In this mini course series, we will cover the very basics of $G_2$-geometry with occasional mentions of analogous statements for Spin(7). We will start with a definition of the group $G_2$, talk about some of its representation theoretic aspects. Then, more geometric aspects will be discussed: a $G_2$-manifold is a 7-manifold with a structure group isomorphic to $G_2$ that satisfies certain geometric conditions. These geometric conditions allow one to investigate the volume minimizing submanifolds in different ways. Towards the end of the mini course series, we will also discuss their complexifications and connections with symplectic manifolds.
